Sorraia Studios
Why the name Sorraia Studios? The Sorraia are a breed of horses that is nearly extinct, they can still be found in parts of Portugal and there are a few living wild in the western United States. Sorraia horses are one of the vanishing creatures in our world and there is a strong parallel with the arts, in that the arts are in some ways vanishing.
Like the horse the arts are being replaced by technology, no longer do we need horses to pull our plows or carry our loads, today we use trucks, tractors and other vehicles. The hand crafted arts are also being replaced, replaced by computer technology. With software and printers, CNC equipment and automated tooling there is very little art or craft today that cannot be produced using technology!
However, it is our position that like the Sorraia, there is a place for and actually a very human need for hand crafted fine art and furniture in today’s world and Sorraia Studios is one of the places dedicated to making these arts available! We hope you agree.
