A Word from Jodie about Commissions
I will consider doing a commissioned piece if the subject speaks strongly to me. As with all my work, I must love the piece and be pleased with it before I can allow it to be seen by anyone. Commissions are a delicate balance between the client’s vision and the vision of the artist, and as such can be a very challenging project. I find the commissions that appeal most to me are those where a client wants a piece which includes their vision but also understands that what makes a piece work is the creative freedom the artist must have to bring life to the piece.
Often when approached to do a commission there is the expectation that I can begin the work immediately or perhaps can have it completed by a specific date such as a birthday or anniversary. Over my career I have found that this scenario is a recipe for disaster for all concerned and I will not accept a commission with these constraints. I maintain a busy schedule and am always involved in a project or series of pieces, preparing for a show or preparing to travel to a gallery or other event. Should I choose to accept the commission it will not be undertaken until there is a logical and creatively conducive point to work it into my schedule. Waiting periods may be several weeks to several months depending on my work load and the subject matter.

A Word from Clint about Commissions
In commissioning a custom piece of furniture you are entering into a fairly involved yet very exciting process, one in which you and I will work closely to develop a design that is pleasing to both of us. This is important because you will love the piece and share your home or office with this furniture for a very long time. I will also love the piece and will want it to have a good home!
I have developed a process that allows me to explore your ideas and needs for a piece of furniture while keeping an eye on your budget, which is another important consideration in most cases! Whenever possible exploration of your needs or interest will include a visit to your home or location to see where the new piece will live and to get an idea of the size and style of the area. (Travel beyond 2 hours drive from our studio will result in additional fees) I like to photograph the area so that I can refer to these photographs during the design process. Don’t worry, these photos are returned to you upon completion of the project and while in my possession are kept securely stored and are shared with no one without your written instructions!
I will provide an estimated timeline and will encourage you to visit the shop periodically so that you can see your furniture go from a design on paper to a finished piece of custom made furniture!
